Christmas Wreath Crafts for Kids

Making a Christmas wreath with your kids is a great activity for the holiday season as it’s one that you can definitely display afterwards.

Personally, my kids always wait until mid-December before they decide that they need to make every single festive thing ever which means that I don’t always have to hand the craft materials that they need. I love using lists like this to both inspire them (and me) and also to see what we could make with the things we already own.

This is an old post that I’ve updated to add some new ideas for making Christmas wreaths that I found and loved, I hope you’ll love them too!

Why do we make Christmas wreaths?

Christmas wreaths are said to represent eternal life with their circular shape.

Time Magazine says “Christians in Europe often placed a candle on the wreath during Advent to symbolise the light that Jesus brought into the world.”

If you’re looking for Christmas wreath crafts as part of your advent activities you could also add some candles to the wreath crafts below – a cardboard strip with a flame drawn on top is normally my kids go-to way to create easy advent candles for crafts.

What Should I use for a Christmas Wreath?

As you’ll see below there are loads of materials that you can make a Christmas wreath from whether you decide to go for natural materials like ivy or prefer to go with a coloured paper, paints or tissue paper.

To make a wreath though you will need something to construct the actual wreath from, paper plates are a great option as they’re cheap and are in a circular shape already.

You can also buy blank foam Christmas wreaths to decorate and there’s lots of Christmas wreath kits too.

These are all so lovely and simple looking.

My kids are 16 and 13 now, but each year I still put up decorations they made as much as ten years ago. Some of them were surprisingly classy, hence why I’m still using them. I always make something new for Christmas each year myself, usually a handmade tree!
