Potpourri is a really simple way to make your home smell nicer and they’re a simple and thrifty alternative to buying chemical filled air freshners! Once you’ve discovered how to make dried orange slices you’ll be wanting to make this dried orange and cinnamon potpourri all the time. It’s super simple and you can easily add things to it to change the smell slightly.
How to make dried orange slices
Dried orange slices are often used in Christmas decorations for wreaths or garlands but they work brilliantly in potpourri too.
- Take an orange and cut it into slices about 2cm thick.
- Place the orange slices onto a wire rack (not a baking tray) and put them in the bottom of your oven at about 120c (the lowest setting on your cooker).
- Leave them in your oven for 2-3 hours, turning occasionally
- If I have to go out while I’m making dried orange slices I just leave them on or near a radiator for a bit to help dry them out!
Once you’ve made your dried orange slices all you need to do is pop a few in a bowl with a couple of dried cinnamon sticks and your potpourri is done. It looks (and is!) really simple but it’s a great way to get a nice aroma in your home with minimal effort and cost.
